Martin has been in the financial services industry since 1989. As a graduate from the University of Nevada, Reno, in 1987 with a Bachelors Degree in Business Management and Finance, he joined the investment firm of Dean Witter in 1989 and worked there with his father, Dale, until January of 1996. At that time, they decided to pursue a more client-oriented opportunity and moved their practice to the small regional firm of Dain Bosworth; Dale retired in 1999. Again as a result of merger and acquisition, Martin decided to pursue another more client-oriented opportunity and moved his practice, along with 6 of his colleagues, to their own independent financial firm, Legacy Wealth Planning.
Martin’s tenure as a financial advisor has led him to focus on a “Client First,” comprehensive Retirement Planning, Asset Allocation and Risk Tolerance Assessment approach to his personal practice. His philosophy has always been to develop strong interpersonal relationships with his clients and their families and to focus his investment advice on their specific financial needs.
Aside from his financial business, Martin is a family man, being married to Kim since 1991, and has 3 children, Elizabeth, Tayler and Alexander. As a Reno resident since 1971 he is also a passionate adventurer/explorer and an accomplished, professional SCUBA diver for over 25 years. In his exploits worldwide, his proudest underwater accomplishment is that he is one of four divers to visit the historic shipwreck, SS Tahoe, at depths over 400 feet in Lake Tahoe. In 1999, he formed New Millennium Dive Expeditions, a non-profit scientific research organization set-up specifically to study the shipwrecks of Tahoe and in 2004 was instrumental in getting the SS Tahoe listed on the National Register of Historic Landmarks. As an avid trekker and climber, Martin has also visited the base camp of Mt. Everest, elevation 17,500 feet, during a 20-day trek and has climbed peaks locally including Whitney, Shasta and Hood. He even made an attempt at Mt. Ranier.
As a servant to the community, Martin was a member of the Reno Host Lions Club from 1996 - 2009 and held positions of President during the 2000-2001 year, President of the Northern Nevada Lions Coordinating Council from 2000 – 2009 and Nevadas Lions Cabinet Secretary 2005-2006. Having resigned from Lions, Martin now donates his community service time to his neighborhood high school, Galena High School.
